Adversarial Growth
Adversarial Growth
That which doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger. Hardtimes, trauma, crisis, these events capable of inflicting pain so deep one may lose themselves or be completely thrown off balance. This damage done, although otherworldly, also has the potential to completely change an individual. This is known as adversarial growth, a process of positive changes can occur in perception of self, philosophy of life, relationships with others, and meaning formed within and after crisis. In losing oneself, all can be found.
Trajectories
Psychopathology
When it comes to trajectories after trauma, hard times or crisis, there are three paths people tend to follow. The first is psychopathy, this is the downwards spiral into clinging and depression. When a person becomes stuck on the events which have occurred within their life. This stage or process of thought tends to happen in almost anyone recently after experiencing trauma or change, the extent of it largely dependent on the trauma experienced as well as the individual. In it an individual will experience, deep sadness, confusion, anger, doubt, constant reflection and blame towards the past as well as fear of the unknown life ahead, a deep loss of personal identity. The psychopathological stage although innate within us and a necessary transition can truly cause a lifetime of grievance if held onto or indulged in for an extended period of time. People can become stuck, people can blame events and continually suffer to a great extent due to what has already occurred. This is Psychopathology.
Resilience
The second is resilience. Resilience tends to be the strong approach which holds stable through the tough times and after. These individuals are strong willed to the extent that they choose not to be excessively phased by trauma or negative experience. They may be shielding themselves or blocking emotions when it comes to circumstances in their life, it can be strong natured yet also prevent an individual from positive change. For certain people it can be like nullifying oneself to the events which have occurred, so although a little more immune to the negative feelings which can be felt, not allowing oneself to feel these negative emotions to their true depth can also prevent positive change from taking course. It is as though, they hold true to themselves, being truly resilient, representing a stable, prone nature through the negative, possibly using defence mechanisms, detachment, or are just solidified in their character. Although resilient, this grounding tends to prevent change within an individual, positive or negative, preventing them from experiencing the full pain of a situation yet also stopping adversarial growth.
Adversarial Growth
Adversarial growth is the process of positive change within the life of an individual after facing difficulty, stress and trauma. When one goes through a truly difficult segment of life they can be knocked off the road of reality and into despair never experienced prior, which makes one lose a sense of control, which makes one have to realign everything they once perceived about life. New outlooks on life can take place, intense appreciation for certain things or people can occur, a reformed perspective of life and the goals and satisfaction one derives from it encompasses one on their path forward. A truly tough period of life has been felt then conquered, deep, unruly suffering indulged in then fought off. All challenges become easier to triumph once we have dealt with the worst of them prior. The pain and suffering felt has the potential to manifest itself in its equal opposite self of happiness, love, and wealth within, when we accept the occurrences of the negative in our lives, then open ourselves to eudaimonia, we understand the extent to life, the depth to it, life becomes remembered for its hardship and cherished for its light. The struggles of life force us to grow as people, they allow us discomfort which we must overcome, if you are struggling in life currently, know that you’ll never know if it gets better unless you live it, live to see what the future has install for you, with the realization of all this darkness, one day you will find true light.
