Two-minute Rule

The two-minute rule

If a task or chore takes less than two minutes, knock it off the moment it presents itself.

The two-minute rule is the act of completing small tasks and chores the moment they are first confronted, reducing daily to-do lists and mental strain in less than a heartbeat. Say putting the bins out, writing an email, chucking out some rubbish on your desk, filling the water jug, all these tasks and so many more can be knocked of instantaneously.

When procrastinated and delayed unconsciously and even consciously they begin to build up in one’s mind, wearing it down with an implicit strain on having so much to do. The opposite affect is enriched if tasks are knocked off as they come about. Small doses of dopamine present themselves with each task accomplished, like a mental and physical reward with every two minutes you come across throughout the day. Completion of these succinct tasks also promotes a compound effect of further production. You are lifting a weight off your mind producing clarity, you are participating in disciplinary action whilst maintaining a cleaner healthier lifestyle.

Such a small little objective such as this one can truly alter a person’s discipline and motivation, when the beds not made and it only takes a minute or two, just smash it out then and there and that comfy made bed will welcome you back into it at the end of a hard-earned day.
