10,000 Hours

10,000 Hours

10,000 hours represents mastery in any given skill of your choosing. It is like a talent tree where the few skills we decide to commit our hours to, become part of who we are as people.

If we wish to be pristine at boxing then we take the time each day to box, if one wants to be highly knowledgeable then they commit hours to read, if one does art, if one loves cooking, if one goes to the gym, then the more hours spent on any of those given talents will score a magnitude of improvements. Once we’ve reached 10,000 hours for any given talent, then we’ve indulged in it so much that we represent the top percentage in the world for that given skill.

10,000 hours is about knowing that the hours you commit to something will define who you are in the future. It is also to acknowledge that there is a starting point to any skill, so you have to be the fool before you become the master. But with hours spent it is like a loading screen to perfection and as the years go on and the hours rack up you will make exemplary use of your new skill.

Humans have around 700,000 hours on this earth. If someone wishes to be a top tier artist, exceptionally good at volleyball and a master of guitar, that is 30,000 hours committed to the skills they choose to be the best at and the same skills which determine who they are. The variations come in abundance and people can become masters in anything they choose if they decide to put in the hours towards it.

Who do you wish to be, what do you want to do, and what will have a positive influence on your life. These are the things to think about when attributing time to the skills you wish dominion over in your life. If you choose to be, you can truly become great at anything, it is just about committing the hours to learning and practising that craft. 10,000 hours is the goal, grab the skill or skills you know will have a positive contribution to your life and pursue mastery over that skill. This is how we become who we choose to be, by turning up consistently to undertake the skills which are going to define us.
